At Metalnox we carry out a whole examination of the shaft line to ensure the performance, reliability and safety of the whole propulsion system. We analyze each component, verify its alignment and detect any sign of wear, vibration or loss of efficiency before it turns into a major problem.
We assess the initial condition of the propulsion shaft line, including alignment, clearances, temperatures, vibration levels, the condition of engine and gearbox mounts, intermediate supports, stern tube seals and bearings. This diagnosis lets us determine if the propulsive line works inside the adequate margins or if it requires intervention.
When required, we carry out the complete dismantling of the propulsion shaft line, including shafts, couplings, bearings, stern tube seals, thrust bearings, shaft brackets, stern tube and propeller. After completing the necessary examinations and repairs, we carry out reassembly under strict dimensional controls to ensure optimal performance.
Straightness verification, taper analysis, contact testing and coupling examination
We verify shaft straightness and the condition of the tapers, assessing any deviation that could generate vibrations or compromise the coupling. When necessary, we apply certified straightening, machining, or welding processes. In addition, we carry out specific tests to ensure uniform and secure contact between the shaft and the coupling, as well as between the shaft and the propeller, thereby preventing premature wear, transmission losses or structural damage. We also verify the condition of the couplings, keyway clearances, thrust bearings, support bearings, and stern tube bearings, assessing their wear and performance in order to carry out, when required, adjustment, repair, or replacement in accordance with the manufacturer’s recommendations.
Precise alignment of the propulsion line
We apply high-precision laser alignment to prevent angular, vertical, transverse, or longitudinal misalignments that could generate vibrations, noise, overheating, or mechanical failures. This process ensures a smooth, efficient and lasting functioning.
Certified equipment and international standards
We work with approved and calibrated equipment, including digital analyzers and 3D scanning systems, propeller analysis software (ISO 484), high-speed dynamic balancing machines (ISO 21940-11), hydraulic presses, advanced welding machinery, fixed and portable lathes, and laser alignment systems.
Our team is authorized and certified to carry out interventions on the propulsion line with full guarantees of quality and safety.
